The day has finally arrived. The day we have been waiting so long for and trained so hard for. Its the final day of Kitchen Store Cupboard Challenge. Its been a long, hard road, fraught with culinary twists, turns and gastronomic ups and downs. But its been inspiring. I'm too emotional to write too much now (and I think i may be suffering from nitrite poisoning), so will write a more thorough analysis of the lasting impact this challenge will have on my life in my next blog post. But the last night of KSCC deserved a fitting finale, so I reached one final time into my store cupboard and freezer. I knew exactly where I was heading. What i was reaching for. And, as my fingertips brushed the cool plasticized steel of the gaudy-coloured tin and felt the icy tingle of the frozen packet as my hand closed around it, i knew this was my moment to shine.
So, without further ado. It gives me great pleasure to announce the Winner of Kitchen Store Cupboard Challenge 2012......... please welcome onto the culinary stage...... Baked Bean and Spam Pizza!!
*WHOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO - THE CROWD GOES WILD**********
I will let the pictures below speak for themselves... (be warned: the faint of stomach may find some of these images disturbing)
Double Whammy. Baked bean and Spam pizza plus the Cheesy Baconator Pizza. Instant classics. |
It will live on in history. Long after its nitratey goodness has been processed and flushed into the night.... |
It came in an admirable second in the Great Pizza Bake (not Barf)-Off |
Day 30: The Great British Baked Bean and Spam Pizza
Ingredients: two frozen cornmeal pizza crusts, tin of Spam, tin of baked beans, fresh cherry (organic, mind) tomatoes, S&P, leftover Alfredo sauce, tin chopped tomatoes, leftover bacon.
DoD: 2 (very easy to construct - just had to be careful not to slop over the edges....)
II: 5 (come on!!! Baked bean and spam? On a pizza??? That is imagination of galactic proportions right there, my friend. I dont think this could ever be beaten)
PfBF: 4 (potential was very very high on this one - but (and i feel slightly grubby to say so) - they were both bloody tasty!!)
Overall assessment: this is one that could have gone so deeply deeply wrong - but, as it turned out, other than the undoubtable negative impact eating these creations will have had on my long-term health prospects, the cornmeal crust was super-crunchy and tasty, so it was pretty much like eating a plate of beans and spam with cornbread. Embarrassingly yummy. I think I might just have invented a New British Classic. Jamie Oliver, eat yer heart out!
After.
