Saving the best til last at Las Torres
Today was an unbelievably amazing day, one that i will remember for a very long time to come. So, we got up very early, 6am, so that we would have plenty of time for our final walk in TdP without any time pressures (a la Glacier Grey!) - a big hike up to Las Torres lookout. This is one of the highlights of the whole park, so Sam and I were really looking forward to it (although i have to confess i was a little worried in case i wasnt fit enough!). We fired up the burners and made hot milk and cereal for breakfast illicitly on the grass outside the refugio - also tried a little pants cooking too, as my knickers had failed to dry overnight (rendering the claim of "dry almost instantly" absolute bollocks!). Alas, instead of nice, warm, dry undies, my attempt at accelerating the evaporation process merely resulted in melting said knickers. I obviously took a photo so i could send to the makers to complain - I can just imagine the discussions at HQ when they get that in. Perhaps it will lead to a revision of the packaging labelling (a la McDonalds caution "careful - this coffee is HOT!) and it will read "Careful - pants may melt if heated in a pan on top of a burner".
So, with slightly crispier knickers than intended, we set off on our big long hike. I'm actually too completely knackered to really write very much except to say it really was one of the highlights of the trip so far and we were just incredibly lucky with the weather. I'll let the pictures do the talking on this one, but it was simply stunning. A real privilege to have seen such beauty and a huge sense of achievement in actually physically getting there.
